This week
Our old glass windows are casting interesting shadows on the banquette and coffee station this morning
As I’m sitting down to write this, I’m also making to-do lists for every major activity and trip on the horizon this week. Back in January the first week of May 2025 seemed distant and impossible. It would usher in true Spring weather, allow us to say mom’s funeral and multiple major trips would be in the rear-view mirror…but here we are. Staring it in the face. And at this very moment it’s not only possible, it is **happening.**
Perhaps the trickiest part of such a week is that chaos can feel pretty alienating. I mean, don’t get me wrong, everyone has their chaos. But when you’re in it, the overwhelm feels so specific or consuming. I told myself that writing it out might be…helpful? At minimum, in ten years I’ll look back and enjoy the madness and memories.
In addition to my regular ol’ morning routine and full time work schedule, here’s what’s on the docket…
Monday, April 28 - My parents’ 41st wedding anniversary, Georgia’s piano lesson, Georgia’s swim club, Peter’s baseball practice, women’s bible study, piano practice/reading/math homework for both children (this is our typical kids’ weeknight routine)
Tuesday, April 29 - Georgia’s field trip to Mary Poppins, two medical appointments, Peter’s soccer practice, Georgia’s crochet night, GriefShare at the local church, somehow grab dinner at Stone House because it’s “Dine and Donate” night for our school, piano practice/reading/math homework for both children
Wednesday April 30 - Georgia’s swim club, Peter’s baseball practice, one dentist appointment, bunch of forms due to Georgia’s teacher tomorrow!, pickup dry cleaning, prep guest room for Nonno, piano practice/reading/math homework for both children
Thursday, May 1 - Nonno arrives from NY!, Peter’s piano practice, Peter’s soccer practice, piano practice/reading/math homework for both children
Friday, May 2 - One medial appointment, pack for Grand Rapids game day, pack for Oakland/Detroit game day, pack for Philadelphia work trip, piano practice/reading/math homework for both children
Saturday, May 3 - Travel to Grand Rapids for RomeoFC game
Sunday, May 4 - Travel to Oakland for RomeoFC game, bring with me my luggage for Philadelphia work trip and fly out same afternoon for my largest event of the year, same evening meet with events and tech team, prep for run-of-show and May 5-7 event
Then, while Colin, my dad and the kids start the next week of school in Romeo, I’ll be working 17+hr days until I return middle of the night May 7/morning of May 8.
Looking at that lineup, I will be so glad to have my dad in town to help. Praying we can all keep our health and wits about us through these next couple of weeks.
A cabinet-turned-basketball hoop caught my eye as I was looking out the dining room window…
This is what a real-life kitchen counter looks like…also, “Pray. Wait. Trust.” LOL
