Happy 10th birthday, Georgia!
Georgia and her cake in front of birthday gifts on the mantle
This Labor Day weekend we celebrated so many things! Our town’s PeachFest, the last days of summer, the long weekend to commemorate Labor Day, the lead-up to a new school year, AND…Georgia’s tenth birthday :)
This kid really does have one of those smiles that lights up a room. She’s a jokester and enjoys silliness and giggles just like she did at 10 months old, except now she’s creative and charming and funny and knows how to command a conversation to lead to laughs. She’s a charmer. Georgia is clever and cheeky and an all around delightful little lady. She’s also sassy! I never know what she’ll say next but she keeps us on our toes, imagines big, loves even bigger, and we cannot STAND how much we love her.
Absolutely love her to bits!!
If you know our adorable G, you know she enjoys all the squishy things. Slime, MushyKins, Squishmallows, more slime, Peachybbies…if it’s a squishy squish of a squish, Georgia is playing with it. She also practices gymnastics every day, has outfitted our living room with gymnastics mats, and mastered her cartwheel this summer, all on her own! This summer she also participated in a dance camp where she fell in love with hip-hop dancing, and started running cross country with her elementary school team. My favorite thing about Georgia is her ability to articulate complex things so clearly and thoughtfully, it’s sometimes surprising to hear from the mouth of a now 10-year old. I also get a kick out of her excitability over the little things, the things she loves, and her hyper-fixations. If she’s interested in it, the whole family takes interest in it, because we know she’s going to bring the excitement!
Georgia loves the fanfare of her birthday celebrations. She enjoys the balloons, the special tinsel crown I set out for her, the surprise arrangement of gifts on the mantle. I think she’s grown accustomed to some of that because her birthday has typically been a month-long celebration with out-of-state family and friends visiting town before school started up…or friends attending her birthday gatherings during PeachFest…or squeezing in birthday-cake with whomever is with us while on the last of our August travel adventures.
For her cake, Georgia requested a smiley-face Funfetti cake with pink and purple frosting. She had fun picking out inspiration cake photos on Pinterest with me, which were a helpful reference point. She opened a couple of presents, we went out to dinner then returned home for her to finish opening the last couple of presents and cut the cake.
I’ve mentioned before that we usually keep some of element of our kids’ birthday plans a surprise. They love the surprise factor. This year, Georgia didn’t know that her Nonno and Zia Vanessa would be visiting for her birthday weekend until right before it happened. We also managed to surprise her with two of her most requested gifts.
She said it was a great birthday and after singing “Happy Birthday” she blew out her candles and wished for her “best school year yet.” Sweet girl. We’ll be praying for this for you, too. Happy happy birthday, G!
